EASY GUIDE FOR CLEANING INFECTIOUS ROOMS​

*Washing walls and/or changing curtains is required ONLY when visibly soiled.
This applies to all patient care areas - per Infection Prevention
MRSA: Contact Precautions. Wear gown, use gloves. Clean with standard
hospital disinfectant.
​C-Diff and Norovirus: Enteric Precautions. Wear gown, use gloves. Clean with
bleach, Use soap & water for hand hygiene. Alcohol foam does not work on
these pathogens.
Scabies & Lice: Contact Precautions. Use gloves. Clean with standard hospital
disinfectant. Do not hold linens against body.
TB: Airborne Isolation Precautions. Wear fitted N-95 mask. Use gown & gloves ​only far soiled areas. Clean with standard hospital disinfectant.
​Chickenpox / Shingles: Airborne & Contact Precautions. Use fitted N-95 mask,
gloves and gown. Clean with standard hospital disinfectant.
Meningitis: Droplet & Contact Precautions. Use regular mask, gloves & gown.
Clean with standard hospital disinfectant.
​Influenza / Pneumonia / Pertussis: Droplet Precautions. Use regular mask &
gloves. Clean with standard hospital disinfectant.
** If cleaning a room where patient is coughing a lot, wear a regular mask.

​** If there is vomiting and/or diarrhea - use gown, gloves, & bleach to clean.
